Date: Fri, 25 Jul 2003 12:27:11 +0200 Organization: Vienna University of Technology *** Call for Papers *** VAST2003: The 4th International Symposium on Virtual Reality, Archaeology and Intelligent Cultural Heritage, Incorporating: The First EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage The Old Ship Hotel, Brighton, United Kingdom 5-7 November 2003 Following the previous successful VAST symposia in Spain, Italy and Greece, there will be two parallel components of VAST 2003 in the English seaside resort of Brighton in November. A brand new EUROGRAPHICS Workshop series: Graphics and Cultural Heritage, in co-operation with ACM SIGGRAPH (pending) will consist of a program of high quality refereed papers and working discussion sessions. By the time of VAST2003 the first set of European Union FP6 projects in Intelligent Cultural Heritage is scheduled to have been approved. The VAST event will therefore also include the opportunity for projects approved or expecting to start up under the FP6 program to present work in progress and planned. One component of the event is expected to be a session to discuss the implications of FP6 in formulating the International Research Agenda that is one of the declared objectives of the Framework program. EG Workshop Paper submission for refereeing: 22 August Results of Reviews to authors: 12 September Final Manuscripts for EG workshop due: 22 September VAST Work in Progress and FP6 plans submission date: 15 September Notification of acceptance of VAST papers: 30 September Conference Dates: 5-7 November Submissions will be via the EUROGRAPHICS website , with the site opening for acceptance of papers in the near future. Papers accepted in the refereeing process will be included in the Proceedings of the EUROGRAPHICS workshop, which will be published in the EG workshop series and included in the EG and ACM digital library. Work presented as work in progress and FP6 plans will be published as an associated second volume. Recent developments in computer graphics and interactive techniques are providing powerful tools for helping archaeologists understand the multi-dimensional aspects of data they have gathered. This conference will bring together researchers and practitioners from many disciplines for example computer science, archaeology, art history, psychology to name but a few, to present the state-of-the-art in graphics and cultural heritage and plan for the future of this rapidly developing field. Original contributions are sought which address the applications of computer graphics and interactive techniques in the analysis, archiving, publication, dissemination and representation of cultural heritage in its widest sense for applications ranging from archaeological scholarship and visualisation techniques to education, tourism, and entertainment.
