-------------------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS IEEE International Conference on Shape Modeling and Applications 2008 http://www.cs.sunysb.edu/smi08 smi08@cs.sunysb.edu Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, New York, USA June 4-6, 2008 --------------------------------------------------------------------- IEEE International Conference on Shape Modeling and Applications 2008 (Shape Modeling International 2008, or SMI\'08) will be held on June 4-6, 2008, in Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, New York, USA. Shape Modeling International (SMI) provides a premium international forum for the dissemination of new mathematical theories and novel computational techniques for modeling, simulating, and processing digital representations of shapes and their properties to a community of researchers, developers, practitioners, and students in academia and industry across a wide range of fields. In 2001, SMI has merged with the Implicit Surface Workshop and is now run as an annual event alternating between Asia, Europe, and America. SMI\'08 will immediately follow the ACM Solid and Physical Modeling Symposium 2008 (SPM\'08), to be held on June 2-4, 2008, in Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, New York, USA. Both SPM\'08 and SMI\'08 events will be co-located in Stony Brook, and are parts of the 2008 Stony Brook Modeling Week. SMI\'08 is co-sponsored by IEEE CS and ACM SIGGRAPH (pending). The SMI\'08 conference proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press. The proceedings will be archived in IEEE Computer Society digital libraries (CSDL). Close by the picturesque, historic villages of Stony Brook and Port Jefferson at the geographic midpoint of New York\'s Long Island, Stony Brook University is located on the north shore of Long Island. It is only a short distance to New York City (about 55 miles east of Manhattan), the beautiful beaches at Fire Island, the elegant resorts of the Hamptons, and the vineyards of the East End. The internationally recognized research facilities of Brookhaven National Laboratory and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory are nearby. Stony Brook can be easily accessed via New York\'s major international airports (JFK Airport and La Guardia Airport are only 45 miles from Stony Brook) and Long Island\'s MacArthur Airport. Conference attendees can also travel to Stony Brook University from New York City via Long Island Rail Road.
