Call for Papers HCI 2010: Play is a Serious Business The 24th BCS International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction Dundee, UK, 6th-10th September 2010 http://www.hci2010.org For over 25 years the BCS HCI conference has brought together researchers, developers and industrialists from around the world to discuss the wide range of topics and ideas encompassed within Human Computer Interaction. As a result, networks have been created, partnerships formed, new research has been generated, and good work has been disseminated. Next year the conference takes place in Dundee, Scotland, from 6th to 10th September, and, in addition to the usual wide range of topics, has the special theme “Play is a Serious Business”. The theme reflects the development of the University of Abertay as a Centre of Excellence in Computer Games Education, and the cluster of industrial companies involved in all aspects of the Computer Games industry in Dundee, and there will be opportunities for delegates to interact with games designers and developers, and their products, at the conference. This call seeks submissions from academics, researchers, students, industrial and commercial practitioners in the following forms: * Full research papers – maximum of 8 pages, on recent, unpublished research on any HCI research topic. * Industrial practice papers – the conference will have two industrial practice threads running alongside the HCI research threads on at last one day, these threads being “Mobile HCI” and “Computer Games”, and practitioners are invited to submit papers, up to a maximum of 8 pages, on any aspect of research, development or industrial practice related to these two topics. * Encounter papers – these are short, maximum 4 pages, papers and presentation outlines that will be presented to delegates in an interactive format involving a direct promenade-style interaction with the authors (more detail will be provided on the conference website). These papers can reflect any of the topics identified in the call, and should be identified as fitting one of four themes for these papers: - Student work (please note, a separate call for papers for the PhD Forum will follow) - Research ideas - Research in progress - Commercial and industrial applications Each of these themes will appear in separate encounter paper sessions at the conference, so please ensure when making your submission that you clearly indicate which theme your paper represents. All papers should be formatted to the ACM standard, see http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates , and will appear on-line in the BCS EWiCS series and the ACM Digital Library. Submissions should be made through the EasyChair system, which will open for submissions early next year and will be linked from the conference website with detailed instructions.
