The main focus of this workshop is collaborative virtual reality and its application to large-scale data set and sensor network data visualization. Areas of particular interest include virtual reality software, hardware, and 3D interaction methods as well as applications in all areas of interactive data visualization. Contributed talks will be selected from a set of one-page abstracts submitted to the Workshop and Program Co-Chairs. Preliminary information about the workshop can be found at the web site http://graphics.cs.ucdavis.edu/CVRV2003 and in the attached flyer. (The web site will be updated whenever new information becomes available.) At this point, we are planning to have approximately 40 attendees. We hope to attract researchers from universities, including a small number of post-doctoral fellows and advanced Ph.D. students; industry; and national laboratories. (Feel free to inform appropriate post-docs and/or Ph.D. students at your institution about this workshop.) The workshop is co-sponsored by the National Science Foundation. We plan to invite four invited speakers and we will contribute to the expenses of a limited number of presenting post-docs and advanced Ph.D. students. The workshop will begin on Sunday, October 26 (starting in the afternoon) and will end on Tuesday, October 28 (after lunch). (This is the weekend right after the IEEE Visualization 2003 conference.) The workshop will be held at the Granlibakken Conference Center in Tahoe City, CA --- right next to Lake Tahoe. We ask you to NOT distribute this e-mail beyond your own research group at your institution. We know that this workshop is of interest to you and hope that you will consider submitting an abstract. Deadline and Instructions for Submitting Abstracts -------------------------------------------------- A one-page abstract is due by Monday, September 1, 2003, to be sent by e-mail, in plain ASCII text or .pdf to Oliver Staadt (staadt@cs.ucdavis.edu). All abstracts must include the names of all contributing co-authors, the title of the proposed talk, and the complete physical and electronic addresses, as well as telephone and fax numbers, of the corresponding primary author. The body of the abstract should not exceed 800 words. The Workshop and Program Co-Chairs will announce their acceptance decision by Monday, September 15, 2003. Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit an extended six-page abstract in .pdf or .ps format to be included in the on-line electronic workshop proceedings by Monday, October 13, 2003.
