This is it, the year 1 a.H. (after Helwig). It is an honour for me to announce, that Helwig, although not organizing CESCG anymore, accepted the invitation to CESCG 2001, giving an invited talk there. Details will be published later. This email contains the Call for Participation, it is sent to invited groups only. Please read it carefully, although not too much changed compared to last year's CfP, however, dates are a little bit earlier this time as the event will already be on April 23-25, 2001. This means that especially the submission deadline is earlier than usual, this time it is already on March 22, 2001. **************************************************************************** CESCG 2001 - Call for Participation 5th Central European Seminar on Computer Graphics 2001 Budmerice castle, Slovakia; April 23-25, 2001 http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/studentwork/CESCG-2001/ **************************************************************************** Don't miss the first deadline (announcement of participation) - it's already soon: January 8, 2001 **************************************************************************** We are proud to announce the fifth Central European Seminar on Computer Graphics for students to be held in Budmerice (right before SCCG 2001) in late April, 2001. This international seminar is a continuation of CESCG '97, CESCG '98, CESCG '99 and CESCG 2000, and previously held joint seminars. CESCG is organized by the Institute of Computer Graphics and Algorithms, Vienna University of Technology, and the Department of Computer Graphics and Image Processing, Comenius University, in Bratislava. We are pleased to invite the following groups (in alphabetical order) to participate by sending students to the seminar: Austria - Graz - Institute for Computer Graphics, University of Technology - Linz - Department of Information Systems (GUP), Johannes Kepler University - Vienna - Institute of Computer Graphics and Algorithms, Vienna University of Technology Czech Republic - Brno - Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Technical University of Brno - Department of Software Systems and Communications, Masaryk University - Ostrava - Department of Computer Science, Technical University of Ostrava - Plzen - Computer Graphics Group at the Department of Computer Science, University of West Bohemia - Prague - Computer Graphics Group at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University Hungary - Budapest - Computer Graphics Group at the Department of Process Control, Technical University of Budapest Italy - Genoa - Institute for Applied Mathematics National Research Council Slovakia - Bratislava - Department of Computer Graphics and Image Processing, Comenius University - Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Slovak University of Technology Slovenia - Maribor - Laboratory for Computer Graphics and Artificial Intelligence, Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor Initially we invite all the groups mentioned above to send two students to give a talk at CESCG 2001. Also, participants who just whish to attend the presentations and discussions are kindly invited. Please note that (active) participation must be announced via email to cescg@cg.tuwien.ac.at until January 8, 2001 - otherwise an active participation will not be possible! The tight restriction of two talks per group is due to the high number of invited groups and due to the two-days schedule of the seminar. However, it might be the case that not all of the invited groups are able to send two students. In this case additional free slots for participation would be available after the participation announcement deadline. Groups interested to send more than two students should clearly state this within the email-announcement of participation so that their wish can be taken into account when compiling the preliminary program. _________________________________________________________________ Aims and Scope of CESCG 2001 _________________________________________________________________ The main idea of CESCG is to bring undergraduate students, who are interested in computer graphics, together across borders of universities and countries. The seminar is also intended to be an international event, where students can present their excellent work to other students. Actively participating students are, therefore, required to study computer science (or something similar) for at least five or six semesters. Sufficient expertise in giving a talk as well as reasonable knowledge of english language is also required for active participation. Of course, the overall topic of the CESCG is computer graphics. Specifically the following fields are covered by the seminar: * Virtual reality * Scientific visualization * Rendering and global illumination * Animation, multimedia, and internet technologies This year we concentrate on "Computer Graphics at the turn of the century". _________________________________________________________________ Outline of the Seminar _________________________________________________________________ CESCG is planned to be held in Budmerice on April 23-25, 2001. Students have enough time to arrive at Budmerice on the first day (in time), even from the far locations. There are approximately twentyfour talks (including time for discussions) scheduled for all three days in total. The program of the seminar is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Time for lunch and coffee breaks is reserved as well. After the first day of seminar, there is a social program in the evening, e.g., going to a pub, and a possibility to sleep in Budmerice. _________________________________________________________________ Contributions _________________________________________________________________ The seminar language is English. The contributions are submitted in HTML and some directly printable format for printed proceedings (device-independent PostScript or PDF; no source like TeX or even Word). To ensure some typographic quality of the seminar proceedings, all submissions have to follow the guidelines for authors available at http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/studentwork/CESCG/guidelines/. A LaTeX2e class (implementing these guidelines) and a Word97 template can be downloaded from this web-page. To get an impression about how the HTML pages should look like, authors shall look at the `CESCG - Web Proceedings' at http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/studentwork/CESCG/proceedings.html. It is an index to previous CESCG contributions and results of previous Joint Seminars. Note that only those contributions are included in the seminar proceedings, that conform to the guidelines specified above. _________________________________________________________________ Participation and Dates _________________________________________________________________ To prepare a successful seminar, it is necessary to coordinate several groups in different countries. It is obvious that this can only work if all the participating groups stick to the schedule of the seminar. The schedule for CESCG 2001 is as follows: December 13, 2000 - Call for Participation sent to invited groups. January 8, 2001 - Deadline for eMail-announcements of participation. All participants - not necessarily known personally at this time - must be announced to the organizers in Vienna (eMail to cescg@cg.tuwien.ac.at) by this day. Even if the exact topics and names of students who will contribute to the seminar are not known to the local organizers by this date, at least the required number of slots must be announced. January 16, 2001 - Preliminary Program sent to participants. March 22, 2001 - Submission Deadline. By this day, all contributions must be submitted to server ftp.cg.tuwien.ac.at (directory /pub/CESCG/2001/upload/) via FTP. Note that both the HTML- as well as the printable Version (Postscript or PDF) of the contribution must be submitted. Please refer to the Upload-Guidelines, available via URL ftp://ftp.cg.tuwien.ac.at/pub/CESCG/2001/upload/, before you send files. March 29, 2001 - Final Program will be sent to participants. April 23-25, 2001 - CESCG 2000 will take place in Budmerice castle. _________________________________________________________________ Contact and Communication _________________________________________________________________ In case you have any questions or recommendations, please send an eMail to cescg@cg.tuwien.ac.at. CESCG 2001 is organized by Thomas Theußl in Vienna and Andrej Ferko and Marek Zimanyi in Bratislava. This CfP is available via URL http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/studentwork/CESCG-2001/cfp.html.
