Call for Papers AVI2002 ADVANCED VISUAL INTERFACES International Working Conference May 22-24, 2002 Trento, Italy _______________________________________________________________________________ AVI2000 Web Site: http://www.diel.univaq.it/avi2002/ _______________________________________________________________________________ SCOPE The 6th International Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI 2002) will be held in Trento, Italy, May 22-24, 2002. This edition will be the sixth of a series initiated with AVI'92 in Rome, and continued with AVI'94 in Bari, AVI'96 in Gubbio, AVI'98 in L'Aquila, and AVI 2000 in Palermo. The Conference has the aim of bringing together experts in different areas of computer science who have a common interest in the conception, design and implementation of visual interfaces. Both formal methods and concrete applications well fit into the framework of this working conference. As in previous editions, we will focus on information visualization, graphical and pictorial communication tools, virtual reality applications, multimedia environments, WWW interfaces, visual languages, visual database systems, adaptive interfaces, cognitive science, and metaphor analysis. Furthermore, with an eye to the requirements and constraints of new class of computers (such as digital assistants, palmtops and mobile phones), we open to perceptual interfaces, not limited to the use of visual techniques, which appear to many scientists the appropriate solution to the design of dedicated interfaces, otimized for a given hardware and/or specific applications. As in the previous editions, the program will comprise invited talks, given by leaders in the field), including: Aaron Marcus(Aaron Marcus and Associates, Inc. (AM+A), Jef Raskin, Davi Redmiles (University of California, Irvine). _______________________________________________________________________________ TOPICS Visual Interface Design Information Visualization Visual Interaction Visual Databases Interface Evaluation Visual Query Systems Hypermedia & Multimedia Visual Interaction with Databases Animated Interfaces Cognitive Models of User Adaptive Interfaces Metaphor Analysis Virtual Reality Controlled Studies and Usability Testing WWW interfaces Computer Supported Cooperative Work Multimodal Interfaces Graph Drawing Perceptual Interfaces _______________________________________________________________________________ ORGANIZING COMMITTEE PROGRAM CHAIR Stefano Levialdi, Universita' di Roma "La Sapienza", Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Informazione, Via Salaria 113, 00198 Roma, Italy. Two kinds of contribution are solicited: RESEARCH papers, up to 8000 words (approximately 20 double-spaced pages including figures), and SYSTEM papers, up to 4000 words (approximately 10 double-spaced pages including figures). System papers will be accompanied by a demonstration of the software prototype and should include a detailed project/system description specifying hw/sw requirements (demonstrators may either use personal laptops, or provide a a full working version of accepted prototypes - available for installation - by April 15, 2002). Please submit six copies of your original manuscript to: AVI 2002, Stefano Levialdi, Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Informazione, Universita' di Roma "La Sapienza", Via Salaria 113, 00198 Roma, Italy. Tel. +39-06-8841962 Fax +39-06-8419188 Electronic submission will also be available. Detailed information on electronic submission will be provided at the AVI 2002 web site. Authors intending to submit a paper MUST send an electronic abstract of no more than 250 words by filling in the abstract submission form that provided at the AVI 2002 web site (abstracts are intended for classification purposes only and must be followed by a paper). Electronic submission of abstracts and papers will open on November 1st, 2001. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ IMPORTANT DATES Electronic abstract submission deadline: November 20, 2001 (Strict deadline) Paper submission deadline: November 27, 2001 (Strict deadline) at 23:59 GMT+1 (Western Europe time) Notification of acceptance: January 25, 2002 Camera-ready paper due: February 22, 2002 (Strict deadline) Demo software due: April 15, 2002 Please note that submissions arriving after the deadline will not be considered. _______________________________________________________________________________ PROGRAM COMMITTEE Michelle Bacigalupi (Oracle, USA) Albert Badre (Georgia Tech, USA) Peter L. Situated at the centre of the great itineraries between lake Garda and the Dolomites, Venice - Verona and Bolzano - Innsbruck, Trento is a Renaissance jewel set in the heart of the Alps. Originally a Roman city and a bridge between Italian and middle European culture, Trento's Renaissance heritage has been preserved in its prestigious monuments built by the prince bishops who ruled the city for eight centuries and elevated it to the height of the XIX ecumenical Council in the 16th century. The castle, the cathedral and its wonderful square, the frescoed houses, the churches of the Council, the museums and exhibitions make Trento a city of art, culture and traditions beyond those of the Alps. The airport closest to Trento is Verona airport. There are also very frequent trains to Trento from Milano (Italy) and from Munich (Germany). _______________________________________________________________________________ CONFERENCE AGENCY The official congress agency for AVI 2002 is Consulta Umbria.
