Author Schedule Papers & proposals: June 18, 2005 Notification of acceptance: July 10, 2005 Camera ready electronic paper: August 14, 2005 Proposals for project & product presentations: August 15, 2005 Conference: October 3-7, 2005 Papers Full and Short Papers related to the topics on following link are solicited: http://www.vsmm.org/2005/pages/papers.html. However, any paper dealing with a pioneered or significant development in virtual reality and multimedia is also encouraged. Full papers should describe original and unpublished work and should not exceed 10 pages single spaced in length including images, figures, tables and references. Short papers should describe work in progress and should not exceed 4 pages single spaced in length including images, figures, tables and references. Each short paper should be clearly identified as such. Each paper should also include the title of the paper, authors names, affiliations, postal addresses, e-mail addresses and the contact person for the paper. Various forms of multimedia, Quicktime documents, etc. can be submitted together with the paper, and will be included in the electronic version of the Proceedings. The submission should relate to your paper presentation. Authors should submit a manuscript electronically as a PDF file conform the paper template, which you can download in Word format on following link: http://www.vsmm.org/2005/pages/papers.html. The proposal should include the topic, the importance of the topic to the VSMM2005 attendees, originality and a brief position statement. The proposal should be around 3 pages single spaced in length and submitted by email to the conference secretariat. Be sure to include the contact persons, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses. Panels have a duration of 90 minutes in total and need to provide enough time for discussion. Deadline: June 18, 2005 Tutorials & workshops Submit a proposal that describes what you plan to teach or workshop. The proposal must include a description of the objectives, duration, experience level and prerequisites of the intended audience, about 200-word abstract, outline of the content and the instructor's vita. Be sure to include the contact persons, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers, and email address. Proposals should be around 3 pages single spaced in length and submitted by email to the conference secretariat. Tutorials and workshops can be half a day or a full day. Deadline: June 18, 2005 Technology and Project Presentations If you are a company that wants to show exciting new products for the VR, multimedia or cultural heritage market, or if you are a university department or research center that has interesting projects in these domains, we can provide you with excellent visibility at the VSMM2005 conference. We provide a 625 sqm room where you can have a stand and present your products or projects. In this room, coffee and lunch will be served during the conference so that there is plenty of opportunity to meet all delegates. The stands will consist of tables and a surface to attach posters and presentation material. If you want to reserve a stand, please contact the conference secretariat. If you also like to make a formal presentation of your products or projects, please send the conference secretariat a 200 word abstract by email. Technology and Project Presentations of about 15 minutes each take place on Tuesday and Wednesday (18:00-19:00, 4 & 5 Oct, 2005). The stands are free of charge, but all participants need to register for the conference. This conference continues to push the boundaries of Virtual Reality and Multimedia research by focusing on the impact on society. Virtual Reality is no longer considered novelty or a wonder — but a living reality in the lives of millions of people all over the world. It is therefore time to take a closer look at how Virtual Reality interacts with society, how it affects its users, and how it promotes or directs social change. The theme of the VSMM2005 Conference is Virtual Reality’s present or potential impact on 21st century society in the fields of Heritage, Education, Applied VR Technology, and Entertainment and the Arts. It will also feature a special session in which the theme of professional guidelines and health, safety, and usability issues will be addressed. VSMM2005 will be held for the first time in Belgium, in the historic town of Ghent. Hosted by the Ename Center for Public Archaeology and Heritage Presentation, VSMM2005 will take place in the Flanders Expo conference building, October 3-7, 2005.
