Euler Diagrams 2004 University of Brighton, UK 22 and 23 September 2004 www.cs.kent.ac.uk/euler2004 Workshop co-chairs: Jean Flower Peter Rodgers Euler diagrams provide a basis for many diagrammatic systems such as higraphs and statecharts. Their intuitive appeal makes them widely used for information visualisation (for example, to express logical conditions, database queries, file system visualisation, statistical comparison of data). Moreover, recent research in automatically generating, displaying and reasoning with Euler diagrams has further widened the range of application areas. This two day workshop aims to bring together researchers and users of Euler diagrams to examine the current state of the art in this topic, explore application areas for Euler diagrams, and discuss future research directions. Original submissions, in the form of 2-page abstracts, can be of the following types: - Surveys of previous research in Euler diagrams - Outlines of current research projects - Position statements - Descriptions of new research - Suggestions for future research directions - Open research questions - Software demonstrations The areas covered include (but are not limited to): - Applications for Euler diagrams - Extensions of Euler diagrams - The semantics of Euler-based diagrams - Generating Euler diagrams (the drawability of Euler diagrams) - Euler diagram drawing (aesthetic layout of Euler diagrams) - Tools for working with Euler diagrams - Euler-based diagrammatic reasoning systems - Usability of Euler Diagrams Full papers, of up to 12 pages, are required shortly after the workshop and will undergo editorial review before final papers are collected to form the workshop proceedings. Important Dates: 12 August 2004 - Submission of Abstracts 19 August 2004 - Notification of Acceptance 22 and 23 September 2004 - Conference days 4 October 2004 - Full papers due Contact: euler2004@kent.ac.uk www.cs.kent.ac.uk/euler2004
