The goal of a Campfire is to bring together leading researchers and developers from a variety of disciplines to exchange state-of-the-art information and explore future directions for computer graphics. A Campfire requires the participants to be active in the context of a four day flexible program including presented papers, position statements, working group discussions addressing fundamental questions, and demonstrations. Aims and Scope ============== While nearly all computer graphics conferences and workshops focus on the underlying algorithms, methodologies, techniques and hardware, we want to focus on the process how 3D computer graphics applications are actually produced. What are the most promising domains for 3D Computer Graphics and how are applications developed in these domains? What does the current production process for instance of computer games look like? How are they designed and implemented? What roles are involved? For more information on the aims and background of the Campfire please take a look at http://www.agc.fhg.de/campfire Participation ============= We ask all attendees to compose a short position paper, indicating their area of expertise, what they would like to learn from this Campfire, and issues they wish to discuss in special sessions. The committee will ask some of the participants to present and discuss their work. We are also looking for participants who want to shape a special session at the Campfire. A program will be compiled taking the suggestions of the participants into account. Topics of interest for the position paper include but are not restricted to the following aspects: - Case Studies: Production process of 3D computer graphics applications (computer game, interactive visualization, etc.) - Reports: Comparing the production of different types of 3D computer graphics applications - Reports: Structures, roles and tools in the production process; What typical structures are there? What roles are there? What tools are there? - Reports: Usability of today's tools - On the schism between artists/designers and engineers/technicians - Producing something together: Where are the problems in interdisciplinary cooperation? How does this affect the production process? - Ideas, Improvements and Solutions; What technological and conceptual developments do we foresee that will affect the way, 3D computer graphics applications will be produced? - Innovative technologies; In how far are emerging technologies (like Mixed Reality, Web3D, 3D integrated in rich media) suitable for improving production structures? - Innovative concepts; Components and design patterns, storytelling techniques, usability, visualization issues - Innovative application domains; What new domains can be identified that benefit from using enhanced 3D graphics developed in a structured way (e.g. Mixed Reality entertainment, Web-based training, mobile information visualization) - Enabling new groups of authors to realize their ideas with 3D computer graphics - conceptual, economical and technological issues - The production process of the future - Roadmaps for future research actions Registration ============ One key element of a Campfire is the venue which will provide an optimal working atmosphere, conductive to maximum interaction between the participants. It features inexpensive all-inclusive accommodation. A very important part of the interaction is that the participants have all their meals together. Thus, the places at the Campfire are restricted to a maximum of 60 participants. At most half of these will be researchers and developers of international standing whose participation is by personal invitation. The remaining places will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis to any other interested persons. The events are self financing with participants paying their own accommodation and travel costs as well as a low registration fee (50 US$) to cover any administration costs. If you are interested in participating please register at http://www.agc.fhg.de/campfire or contact us at campfire@agc.fhg.de Organizing committee: ===================== Ralf Dörner, Fraunhofer AGC, Frankfurt am Main, Germany Christian Geiger, Hochschule Harz, Wernigerode, Germany Paul Grimm, Fraunhofer AGC, Frankfurt am Main, Germany Michael Haller, FH Hagenberg, Hagenberg, Austria -- For more information, please send an email to campfire@agc.fhg.de --
