Call for Papers and Participation 2nd International Symposium of Knowledge and Argument Visualization 5 – 6 – 7 July 2006 in LONDON Proceeding will be published by IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY Knowledge Visualization aims to improve the transfer of knowledge by using computer and non-computer-based visualization methods. While information visualization (IV) concentrates on the use of computer-supported tools to get new insights, knowledge visualization (KV) focuses on the transfer of insights. Beyond the interactive visualization of data or the transfer of facts, knowledge visualization aims to further transfer insights, experiences, attitudes, values, expectations, perspectives, opinions, and predictions. Knowledge Visualization has it's roots in Visual Communication, Communication Science, Visual Perception and Cognition, Learning Sciences, and Knowledge Management, where it is a key-issue to make knowledge visible so that it can be better identified, accessed, shared, discussed, applied, and generally managed. Aims The Second International Symposium on Knowledge Visualization aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for researchers and practitioners from different disciplines (e.g., Knowledge Visualization, Argument Visualization, Information Visualization, Knowledge Management, Information Design, Information Architecture, Cognitive Art, Info- Aestethics, Interface Design, Virtual Reality, Visual Perception and Cognition, Storytelling) to address and discuss theories, methodologies, techniques, applications, evaluations and case studies related to Knowledge Visualization. Scope · The symposium will seek original papers concerning, but not limited to the following topics: · Fundamentals of Knowledge Visualization and Argument Visualization · Frameworks and Models for Knowledge Visualization and Argument Visualization · Case Studies and Evaluations in Knowledge Visualization and Argument Visualization · Case Studies on the fruitful use of visual techniques in complex business situations and business processes (e.g., · communication of large projects, strategy visualization, process visualizations, and visualization in change processes) · Case Studies and Evaluations on the fruitful use of visual techniques in other complex organizational processes · (governmental, research, art, design, entertainment, etc.) · Case Studies on the use of Visual Approaches in Corporate Communication/Sales/Marketing/Finance · Interactive visual techniques in Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Representation and Knowledge Application · Novel approaches for Concept Mapping · Ambient Displays and visual applications that extend the screen, visualization in the space, immersive spaces · Storytelling combined with visual formats. Research and Case studies on Visual Metaphors · Visualization of Social Networks · Cognitive Design and Knowledge Media Design · Qualitative and Quantitative Methodologies · Other novel or visionary visual approaches · Theoretical and applied approaches to improve the effectiveness of Knowledge Visualization 1 March 2006 – Submission of papers 25 April 2006 – Submission of camera-ready & early registration closes IV06-KV Advisory and Programme committee · Remo Burkhard, University of St. Gallen, http://www.unisg.ch · Martin Eppler, University of Lugano, http://www.unisi.ch · Michael Meier, vasp datatecture GmbH, http://www.vasp.ch · Dominique Brodbeck, http://www.macrofocus.com · Michael Granitzer, Know-Center, http://www.know-center.at · Wolfgang Kienreich, Know Center, http://www.know-center.at/ · Andrew Vande Moere, University of Sydney, http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au · Sigmar-Olaf Tergan, Knowledge Media Research Center, http://www.iwm-kmrc.de · Greg Judelman, noesis studio, http://www.noesisstudio.com * Stefan Bertschi Supported by · GraphicsLink… · VGRU,BCIM, South Bank University, UK · National Centre for Computer Animation, Bournemouth University, UK · Department of Visual Art, University of Northern Colorado, USA · HCI Graduate Program, Indiana University School of Informatics, IUPUI, USA · School of Library and Information Science, Indiana University, USA · Information and Computer Science Department, KFUPM, SA · College of Information Science and Technology, Drexel University, USA · University of Kent at Canterbury, UK · The Institute of Media and Communications Management of the university of St.Gallen, Switzerland · University of Oregon, USA · University of St.Gallen, Switzerland Endorsed by Information Visualisation Society Paper submission (Further details and templates at http://www.graphicslink.demon.co.uk/IV06/) For this symposium, it is possible to present full paper, poster presentation and display or video-paper. These submissions may include Research, Review and Application but are not limited to these only. Accepted papers will be published in The Proceedings. IV06 Proceeding will be published by IEEE Computer Science Society. With paper submission, you agree to pay registration fee (or reduced registration fee if your registration form is received on or before the early registration date) and published papers must be presented by at least one of the authors. Reviewing is applied for all the materials submitted. Electronic submission is encouraged and pdf format is most appropriate, otherwise, four printed copies of full papers are expected that will be reviewed by the members of the reviewing committee. The final manuscripts for full papers are expected to be not more than 6 pages - up to 4 excess pages may be purchased and is set by publisher at 25 GBP per page. All submission should be in electronic format pdf.
