To celebrate this anniversary, for 1999 this event will be a Joint EUROGRAPHICS - IEEE TCCG Symposium on Visualization. The symposium will be a public event; no invitations or accepted papers are needed to attend. We welcome and expect strong participation from both sides of the Atlantic. Research papers as well as case studies (new!) will form the scientific content of this event and will be published by Springer-Verlag. Research papers are welcome from all areas of visualization and should present original scientific ideas or significant improvements to existing techniques. Case studies should report on the successful application of visualization methods to some special problem or field. Suggested topics of the symposium include, but are not limited to: * Volume visualization * Fluid flow visualization * Information visualization * Surface extraction and visualization * Parallel and distributed visualization * User interaction techniques * Multi-variate visualization * Visualization and modeling of large datasets * Data handling and data modeling * Biological and medical imaging * Virtual reality in visualization * Visualization in education support * Internet-based visualization SYMPOSIUM FORMAT The symposium is planned to be organized as a single-track assembly of presentations of research papers and case studies. Enough time for discussion is scheduled after the talks and inbetween the sessions. An invited talk will also be included. The scientific program will cover three days of late May, 1999. For details see another section below. PAPER SUBMISSION Authors are requested to prepare their contribution as a full paper (research paper: up to ten pages; case study: up to six pages), following the publishing guidelines by Springer. Please use the LaTeX style files by Springer right from the beginning - accepted papers will be published in a Springer book and, therefore, are required to be type-set using LaTeX. Style files and instructions for authors are available via http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/conferences/VisSym99/springer.html. To submit your research paper or case study, please upload a `gzip'ed Postscript version (including no other fonts than `Times', `Helvetica', `Courier', and `Symbol') of the full paper using FTP to ftp://ftp.cg.tuwien.ac.at/pub/VisSym99/upload/. After successfully uploading your paper, please send an E-Mail (mailto:vissym99@cg.tuwien.ac.at) clearly indicating the type of submission (research paper or case study), list of authors, and title. Note, that we cannot accept any Postscript file which cannot be viewed/printed using ghostview - there are too many (incompatible) versions of Postscript around. If you are not able to upload your paper as `ghostview'-compatible Postscript, you alternatively can send five copies of the full paper including figures and images by regular mail to Eduard Groeller, Symposium & Program Co-Chair of VisSym '99 Institute of Computer Graphics, Vienna Univ. of Technology, Karlsplatz 13/186/2, A-1040 Wien, Austria IMPORTANT DATES ______________________________________________________________ Note: the submission deadline is significantly earlier to previous years workshops! ______________________________________________________________ As soon as possible! ...
